MINK & TROUT is a simple and considered WINE BAR BISTRO and RESTAURANT on one of CAPE TOWN’s trendiest culinary strips – BREE STREET. The WINE BAR BISTRO RESTAURANT is the brainchild of chef’s Leigh Trout and Kevin Mink, who have created a warm and comfortable atmosphere for serving up beautiful and delicious food, that is always accompanied by very good wine. A real attention to detail is seen in Leigh’s unique menus, as well as how he plates his dishes, which end up being nothing short of artistic. The RESTAURANT is a treat for tourists but most importantly for us, it’s a place where our local visitors can comfortably return to again and again. We also love hosting special events at MINK & TROUT WINE BAR BISTRO and hire out the RESTAURANT for private functions regularly.

Our menu is simple, seasonal and authentically Mink & Trout. We try to stick to local produce and we like to change things up regularly but some favourites include: Risotto Arancini with goat’s cheese, cauliflower and mushrooms, our timeless Free Range Chicken Pie, our unique Caesar Salad and our delicious beef burger. We also love ending off meals with a sweet treat so have put a great deal of love into our classic Vanilla Crème Brûlée and our Organic Yoghurt Panna Cotta recipes.

 Leigh started his journey through training for management in hospitality but ended up loving the kitchen the most. He first worked under a German chef who guided him in the discipline that connected being organized and refined and producing something exceptional but he was always an entrepreneur and a fiercely independent chef so running his own kitchen was inevitable. He first worked in a number of luxury lodges and gained further experience abroad (often times in Michelin star kitchens) before coming home to get stuck into a simpler, less competitive pursuit of his own. Leigh is an artistic chef and a businessman so Mink & Trout has been an exploration of both sides of his character.

When we’re not cooking for our guests on Bree Street, we’re catering for special occasions, a side of our business that is run by Kevin Mink. Birds Catering has been running for several years now, giving us invaluable experience to handle any kind of event, both intimate and grand.
